Xiaomi Mi Note vs Samsung Galaxy Note 4: Specifications

Xiaomi today launched its latest flagship device, the Mi Note. The device is a phablet priced at 2,299 Yuan for the 16GB variant, and 2,799 Yuan for the 64GB variant, which roughly translates to around Rs 23,000 and Rs 28,000 respectively. In addition to the likes of the iPhone 6 Plus, Xiaomis flagship phablet will also be up against the Samsung Galaxy Note 4. We compare the two phablets on the basis of specifications and features.

Price
The Xiaomi Mi Note has been launched in China, and as mentioned above it is priced at 2,299 and 2,799 Yuan for the 16GB and 64GB variant respectively. The Chinese prices roughly translate to Rs 23,000 and Rs 28,000 approximately. These are not the Indian prices, but are a rough calculation. In comparison, the Galaxy Note 4 is priced at Rs 58,300.

Size and Weight
Both the phablets are huge with length in excess of 150mm, and width in excess of 75mm. Xiaomi has managed to keep the Mi Note phablet really thin at an impressive 6.95mm, in comparison the Galaxy Note 4 is at 8.5mm thick. The Mi Note is also relatively lighter at 161 grams, while the Galaxy Note 4 weighs 176 grams.

Display
The Mi Note has a 5.7-inch full HD 1080p display with dynamic contrast pixel adjustment technology, which automatically improves contrast of darker areas to make the picture appear better. The Galaxy Note 4 has a similar 5.7-inch screen but with quad-HD display, and a pixel resolution of 2560×1440. In other words, it has twice the number of pixels than Xiaomis HD display.

As for protection, the Mi Note is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3, while the Galaxy Note 4 is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4.

Power
Both the phones are power packed. The Galaxy Note 4 is powered by a Snapdragon 805 quad-core processor clocked at 2.7GHz. In comparison, the Mi Note is powered by a 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor paired with Adreno 330 GPU for graphics. As for RAM, both the devices house 3GB of RAM.

Storage
The Galaxy Note 4 features 32GB internal storage, and a microSD card slot to expand memory up to 128GB. In comparison the Mi Note does not offer any external storage option, and has 16GB and 64GB variants to cater to different users.

Cameras
If the number of megapixels is taken into consideration, the Xiaomi Mi Note features a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 4-megapixel camera in the front. It is accompanied by a two-tone flash similar to the one on the iPhone 6 Plus, and also boasts a low light mode, wherein users are able to adjust the intensity of the LED flash.

The Galaxy Note 4, on the other hand, has a 16-megapixel rear with LED flash and 3.7-megapixel front snapper. It has a 120 degree selfie mode, OIS, autofocus, voice shutter commands and gesture commands in its Camera app. We cannot ascertain which camera is better until we have extensively tested them ourselves.

Operating System
The Mi Note runs on the latest MIUI 6 on top of the Android 4.4.4 KitKat, while the Galaxy Note 4 runs on the custom-built TouchWiz UI, based again on Android 4.4.4 KitKat. Each UI has a bunch of add-on features unique to the smartphone.

Battery
As far as the battery goes, the Note packs a 3,000mAh battery and it supports Quick Charge 2.0 capability. The Galaxy Note 4 houses a bigger 3,220mAh battery, which the company claims will last for 20 hours of talktime.
